NEW YORK — After a heartbreaking loss at the hands of Tampa Bay, the Yankees looked to start another win streak while taking on the Detroit Tigers. With one of the hottest pitchers in baseball, Luis Severino, on the mound for New York, they seemed eager to get back on track. With Sevy throwing 5 innings of 1 run baseball, Girardi turned to the bullpen and put the game in the hands of Kahnle, Betances, Holder, and Chapman, who eventually shut it down. Also, the offense seemed to be back. With RBI’s from Clint Frazier, Sanchez, Headley (2), and Todd Frazier (2), followed by a Judge bomb, the Yanks stole the first game of the series and got back to their winning ways.
